History[Break]
Levi is the son of a prostitute. No need to mince words about it, a simple fact. Not that he knew her very long. He'd never met his father, but the man could burn in hell for all Levi cared. He was one of his mother's clients. No one important. Scum in his mind, not that he thought on it all that much. She died when Levi was just a boy, he can't remember how but he knows he knew once. Whether it was illness or violence he honestly couldn't remember. His mother's older brother took him in, finding him living in filth when he came for a visit. He took Levi away from there, taught him how to weild a knife and how to fight. However, when his uncle found he was able to fend for himself? He vanished.
[break][break]
Levi made...friends after that. Furlan Church and Isabelle Magnolia. They managed to steal 3DMG and learn to use it. No easy feat without an instructor. However, they moved on to using it to commit crime within the Underground. Which, was how he came to join the Survey Corps to begin with.
[break][break]
In short? Blackmail. Blackmail was the only reason he had ever joined the Survey corps. He'd never let the brat find out, so help him, but it's the simple state of things. Erwin and Mike managed to bag him, and his friends during a job gone horrible wrong. Since he's learned that anything described as a simple mission would inevitably go horribly wrong. When they joined, he was simply a thug in military clothes. Insolent and angry all the time. The rest of the Survey Corps didn't much want him there, and he didn't much want to be there. However, his skill with his blades in battle against an abnormal titan earned him praise. Shortly thereafter it only earned him agony.
[break][break]
The only two people in the world he had cared about died. It was something he blamed himself for every day, and it was also what drove him forward on days he felt like giving up. He could not let their deaths be in vain. He would avenge them. After their deaths, the first mask went up. Cold indifference to anything. He became Humanity's Strongest Soldier. A legend more than a man, which was how he preferred it. Legends don't have emotions.
[break][break]
Time and time again he seemed to be the only member of his entire squadrons coming back alive. Though he has not always gotten out unscathed. He's been injured more than he'd prefer to remember but he often downplays it, and moves along. They really can't afford not to have him along most times. Trost was breached on the same day as the Survery Corps was deployed on a mission, but eventually he was sent back. Arriving just in time to rescue Eren, Armin, and Mikasa after Eren closes the gate. Thereafter he insists that he was enough to keep Eren in line, that a titan as part of the survey corps would only be beneficial. To drive his point home, he unfortunately has to kick the snot out of the poor brat. Something he takes no joy in, but it was necessary. It had to be known that a simple aggressive act towards the shifter was not going to be catastrophic to all the people living within the walls.
[break][break]
During Hanji's trials to get Eren to transform, Levi is on guard. Ready to remove Eren from the neck of his titan. Specifically in a way that will sever his arms, while unpleasant, they would grow back. Something that Levi found to be not only extremely lucky for the brat, but quite unpleasant. When the brat finally does manage to transform, well, partially, Levi is quick to jump between the brat and his squad. Ready to protect him, as while it's his duty to protect the people from Eren, he's also taken responsibility for him as well. He manages to diffuse the situation, and it leads to the discovery of what exactly triggers Eren's changes.
[break][break]
During the 57th expedition things go, well, horribly wrong in most accounts. They managed to capture the female titan, but it seems for naught as he is unable to retrieve the human from within. Instead she is consumed by titans that she seemed to be able to call to her and escapes. She returns short after only to kill his entire squad. Eren is captured by her, and it leaved him and Mikasa to retrieve him. He injures himself saving Mikasa, and even scolds her for being reckless and endangering Eren.
[break][break]
His injury leaves him out for the count for the next operation, but it seems that every step forward is another step back. Levi's injurt heals up in time, and they gear up for their next plans, however, something seemed to have gone strange. He suffered one of his usual fitful nights of sleep, only to awaken somewhere he'd never seen. He wonders if he died and that he's stuck in some afterlife, but that seems unlikely. As while this world doesn't have titans it is plagued by a whole different kind of monster it seemed. Rest, it seemed, was simply too much to ask for.

[break][break]
Personality[break]
Cold, snarky, and kind of an ass with a foul mouth. Those are the things someone would get off a first impression of him. To most he's uncaring, and some might even go so far as to say cruel, but there's more to him than what sits on the surface. He keeps himself locked under layers of indifference. One hundred different masks to keep everyone from knowing he cares. But it comes out from time to time, even if it's in ways that don't get noticed. Better yet in ways that make him seem like more of an asshole, like giving away the patch of a close friend to console a soldier, or beating a brat in a court room filled with people.
[break][break]
The surface is a tricky thing, however, because what lies beneath is much more complex. He's terrified of growing too attached to his squad members, knowing eventually he's going to lose them. He always loses them. Time and time again, and yet he can't help himself from growing fond of them. Growing protective of them. He looks out for his own, even if those ways aren't always ideal.
[break][break]
Even he can be a coward sometimes, standing up to a titan is nothing, at this point. Standing up to ghosts in his past? That's another thing entirely. He has skeletons in his closet a mile wide and while it's not exactly a secret, he does try to keep them under lock and key. He doesn't like people digging around in his past.
[break][break]
He's a bit of a neat freak. Well, a lot of a neat freak. Years of living in squalor have taught him that cleanliness was a luxury that was not only achievable, but one he did not want to live without. So maybe he was a little harsh on the cadets about keeping their living space clean, but it had become ingrained in his personality. Not to mention, scrubbing things down was a great way to try and ignore the nightmares.
Abilities[break]
First things first, when joining the survey corps, it was noted that he holds one of his blades incorrectly. Something he has always been staunchly stubborn about and has not given up no matter how many times they tried to correct him in his early days. He holds one blade back-handed. It seemed simple to him, logical, and it makes him one of the best, if not the best soldier in the military. It allows for him to use spinning moves, allowing him more stamina, better use of his equipment, and extreme speeds. It's not for the feint of heart, however, as many would get dizzy from the sheer amount of spinning. It is said that Levi is worth as much as a whole brigade on the battle field, and while he wants to scoff at that and brush it off logically he knows it's probably true.
[break][break]
He's strong and agile, good in both battles against titans and humans, though he has been known to excel in one more than the other. Not that he would go around advertising the latter. Being an Ackerman has, well, some advantages. He seems to know exactly what needs to be done in a given situation, something he can't really explain himself but it't there. But more importantly he is completely resistant to mind control of any kind. He's incredibly quick witted, and scrappy. He's not against fighting dirty and will use whatever is at his fingertips to get the upper hand in battle. As miserable as he feels sometimes, he still has a burning will to live. To make the lives of his friends and comrades that have been lost worth something.

Appearance[break]
Levi has a fairly intimidating presence, which is surprising given his stature. Anyone brave enough to get near him with a tape measure would know he just barely reaches 5'3. Most people, however, appreciate their limbs remaining attached to their bodies. What he lacks in stature, he makes up for in posturing. His face is pulls into a near permanent scowl. His eyes are sunken in, and dark circles are almost permanently surrounding them from lack of proper sleep.
[break][break]
The man makes up for some of his shortcomings in build, however. Years of military service, and less than moral situations before that, have honed his body into a weapon. He's marred with scars, and the imprints of the 3DMG. Started from bruises, to rubbed raw from cloth trapped between flesh and leather, scarred over and ripped again into toughened calloused marks. Not that too many have seen them, he tends to keep himself covered from toe to neck most of the time. His hair is cut short, choppy and shaved down on the undersides kept in a neat and simple undercut. He wears his uniform or suits, but doesn't tend to deviate.
