Vanitas

Vanitas was created from the darkness inside a boy named Ventus. Before coming into himself he was just a darker version of his other half. It was through the abuse dealt to him by Master Xehanort that he truly became the cruel sadistic young man he is today. He spent most of his days alone. The only time he had company was when his master would return and beat the hell out of him. Any sorrow he felt for being separated from Ventus was soon turned to rage, anger, and jealousy. Anything that could have been redeemable in him would have been quickly snuffed out by his own hatred of weakness.

The boy was taught to be ruthless and cunning among other things. His master wasn't giving him cupcakes and gold stars for good behavior. Anything he accomplished would have been rewarded with even harsher training. If he couldn't swim he'd surely drown. He wasn't watching meteor showers, he was watching for the next blow from his teacher. It was like living with a mad man, but being a creature of darkness it wasn't odd to him. It would have been odd if his master was bandaging his cuts and playing ball with him. Then again he probably did have a few fireballs chucked at him if that counts.
