[nospaces] it's enough when I say so AND MAYBE, SOME THINGS ARE THAT SIMPLE Sora , here i come to protect u in ur dreams [break][break] Riku is scared. [break][break] His world fell apart, crumbling beneath his feet. Darkness met him - and then afterward, snowy hills. Snowy hills he didn't recognize, different from the ones in Halloween Town he'd managed to trudge himself through while following Sora's back. Darkness can beget light, and so it's illuminated in front of him, but it's just as confusing as traversing the Realm of Darkness, alone, without a map or a guide or Mickey or anything, because he just as well knows where he's going here as he did then. The shadows are long, as they're cast longer within the light, and he shivered then when he awoke and he shivers now in his sleep that he'd taken in an abandoned cabin he managed to find. He only slept because the energy seemed to drain from him piece by piece until his veins flooded with ice and nothing else and all warmth diminished, leaving the vast emptiness he'd last become familiar with when Ansem haunted the deepest recesses of his mind. [break][break] He's not scared because he's somewhere he's never been, though. He's experienced that too many times for it to be something odd or surprising anymore, and it's not odd or surprising that he knows nothing about how he's gotten here. It'd been the case when he went through the dream world's Traverse Town, it'd been the case when Beast's Castle loomed over him, and it's the case now. It's almost a comforting pattern within his life, as if it's etched into the stars above. The unfamiliarity is familiar in such a way that it brings about the old thirst of adventure, and he'd even been willing to explore the area despite how barren. He'd even thought he heard voices, and a conversation he could've struck; but... He hadn't wanted to. [break][break] It's not the area that leaves him scared. It's not the new things he's found. It's the old things he seems to have left behind. [break][break] No heads, nor tails of Sora bring themselves to mind's eye and Riku's groping at thin air as he calls his name, beckons for him over the hills over to find no answer. And he knows what happened the last time that Sora and he separated - deep within the clutches of the Organization who sought to take over his body for their ill-conceived plan to bring about the Keyblade War anew. It'd drained all the life out of him to see Sora lying in that chair where he doesn't belong, bad wrong bad wrong bad wrong, and hear the gravelly tones of Xehanort speaking over them almost as if in jest with that heinous grin stretching his cheeks and a light within his eyes that any other time would've been funny in its irony. [break][break] It's safe to say that experience has taught Riku to be scared of when Sora disappears in front of him, because it may be the last he sees of his friend awake at all. [break][break] He'd been searching and searching ever since the realization dawned on him that he was completely and utterly alone, but to no avail; and unfortunately, his energy drained as such that he only barely managed to bring himself to bed. Drifting, drifting again as cold blankness greets him like an old friend, and there he is, disappearing into nothingness only to reappear again somewhere else. It's warm and it's beach and Riku wonders where he's gotten here. He wonders that for all of five minutes before he glances down. [break][break] Yellow. Freed arms. Squeaks nearby that he can hear that are oh-so familiar, and this time in a good way rather than routine. [break][break] That's right. Maybe... Maybe Sora is asleep! If he's asleep, he can find him in his dreams. And if he finds him there, then maybe he can figure out where he's gone, too. [break][break] Let's not have this be like the last dream we've met in.[break][break] He starts to wander about the sands, stumbling over himself as he cups his hands over his lips and he calls out, ❝Sora? Sora! Where are you? It's Riku!❞ He pushes himself forward, ignoring the lulling of the waves to his left as he instead traverses about the island, looking for the paopu fruit tree. If Sora is dreaming up this location and he happened to land here in his worry for his friend, after all, then maybe that's the first place he's gone. After all, it's a place of sentiment for the both of them, and Sora's nothing if not an entirely sentimental dork. [break][break] (Like Riku is not. Like Riku never was. Like Riku doesn't lie awake at night thinking about the other boy, wondering how he's doing, and thinking about what things would be like if they were just a little different.) WHATEVER LIES BEYOND THIS MORNING is a little later on

Waking up in some new place wasn't exactly strange for Sora. What was strange was for him to be alone and he would admit that that unnerved him a little. The last time he'd woken up in a strange place alone things hadn't exactly gone according to anyone's plan. For a brief moment Sora hadn't even thought anything was weird, in fact, he had thought that he was home briefly before he realized things weren't quite right. The water that lapped at his feet wasn't quite as warm, and on closer inspection, the plants weren't right either. Shortly after making this realization was when the city came into view. A floating city on the sea.
The people were friendly, and Sora almost forgot that something was wrong. Until he went to say something to his best friend. A friend that wasn't there. And suddenly, his chest ached with the realization that Riku wasn't there. Part of him felt a little guilty that his first thought had been only about his best friend and not the countless others that he called friends, but it had always been Riku and him. And Kairi his brain supplied helpfully, only adding to the guilt that he felt.
After a busy day of helping people gather resources--Sora was a pro at climbing trees--he had settled down in his bed. Despite being exhausted, sleep didn't come easy, but then again it didn't--not anymore. The keyblade bearer had a subconscious fear that kept him from slipping into the much needed sleep. Only the sound of waves outside of his window helped to lull him into sleep.
The next thing he knew he was woken up by several sloppy licks to his face. Blue eyes flicked open, and he blinked several times at the blue creature that was perched on his chest. It wiggled happily, yipping before continuing to lather his face in slobbery kisses. Sora laughed, raising his hands to shield his face.
"Tumble! Stop! I missed you too." Pushing the meowow from his chest, Sora sat up, raising a hand to shield his gaze from the sun. He was home. Sure, he knew it was just a dream, but it was better than nothing.
Sora? Sora! Where are you? It's Riku!
The sound of that voice made Sora's throat constrict, and he scrambled to his feet. Riku? There was a possibility it was just a figment of his imagination, something that he'd thought of to bring himself some sort of comfort, but there was also the possibility that it really was Riku.
"Riku?"

[nospaces] it's enough when I say so AND MAYBE, SOME THINGS ARE THAT SIMPLE [break][break] It's his voice. [break][break] It's his voice. [break][break] It thrums deep within his chest once it reaches his ears, bouncing around within his ribcage, and he sucks in a breath as he takes a look and - there he is. Illuminated by sun above, eyes blue as ever, bright, the definition of sun-kissed. They're wide, his eyebrows lifted high, as if he isn't expecting to see him there. And it makes Riku ache to see, knowing that they'd been separated long enough for Sora to even assume that nothing would come of it, that their meeting now is some sort of fluke, some sort of trick of the imagination. [break][break] He doesn't even remember having been split from him. But Riku is not going to let anything like that happen ever again. [break][break] He takes a run toward him, only slowing once his form is made out more than just some distant blur that could be mistaken as a mirage, and beginning to smile as suddenly everything seems like it's going to be okay. He'd been afraid, for sure; he hadn't seen Sora out in the world, but maybe... He could find him this way. It's good to know that their worlds of dreams are always connected, a comfort realized now which brings Riku's heart heavy warmth. [break][break] ❝Yeah,❞ he breathes. ❝It's me. There you are.❞ It's relief that brings him to smile, that Sora is okay, at least. Riku hasn't sensed, spotted, any Nightmares. At worst, he sees a small Meow Wow rolling at Sora's feet, which isn't even bad. In fact, if he hadn't found him, he could trust the other Spirits to look after Sora; and that thought alone is more than a little comforting. Perhaps it's bias that spurs him on, but he has more than a little fondness for the creatures, and being that they've helped him more times than he could count, it only makes sense that they would help to bridge the gap between the two of them again. [break][break] Of course, Riku must always act cool, despite the fact that his arms are twitching and he'd like nothing more than to take Sora into them. There's a fragility there, one he dare not cross - one he dare not ruin. But the sentiment is there, at least, oodles within his voice, and his voice is a little better at not giving everything away to the point that it'll scare his best friend off. Certainly something he doesn't want, can't handle, when he needs to find him. It's so easy to consider ruining everything in the heat of the moment, isn't it? Good thing he has practice. [break][break] He quickly shakes off those damning thoughts, not wanting to ruminate. There are much more important things to focus on than the fact that one touch and it might break everything. He's controlled himself, time to move on. Especially pressing is the fact that they hadn't even been together in the first place. Last time, they'd been together in Yen Sid's tower, hadn't they? Granted, different rooms. Different rooms indeed. But still, they'd been in the same building. General vicinity. [break][break] His relieved smile is falling to a frown relatively quickly, and it's not hard to guess why. ❝What happened?❞ he says bluntly. ❝Was I just imagining it? Before we went to sleep, I didn't see you. And...it wasn't the tower. Did I just wind up someplace else?❞ Perhaps it's not the greatest in the way of small talk or introductions, but it's weighing on Riku's mind and he has no doubt it is Sora's. [break][break] Is Sora still in the tower and Riku just got transported somewhere else? How the heck could that happen? WHATEVER LIES BEYOND THIS MORNING is a little later on

It was Riku. Now that they were closer Sora knew that it really was Riku and not just some figment. He knew Riku well enough that his mind could make a passable replica, but he was always lucid enough to know the difference. Sora felt his cheeks blush and he was happy that Riku was far enough away that he couldn't make out the color that rose on his cheeks. It wasn't if he dreamed of Riku often, but he probably did it more than friends normally did and he certainly dreamed of Riku more than he did anyone else.
Sora realized Riku was closer now, talking to him. Asking him a question. He couldn't focus on the words, however, because all he wanted to do was throw his arms around his best friend and hug him tightly. The ache in his chest was soothed now. He wasn't alone, even if it was just in his dreams. Riku was here now. Now all he needed was Kairi.
Riku was still talking and before Sora could make the conscious effort to actually listen to him, the younger teen closed the distance between them. His arms came up to wrap around Riku’s neck and he pulled him tightly against himself in a hug. Sora exhaled harshly, burying his face against Riku’s neck. The older teen's scent washed over him, comforting him.
"You're really here," Sora whispered against Riku. A breath left his lips, and he tightened his hold before he spoke again. "I woke up on a beach and at first I thought I was home but it was wrong and... you weren't there. And..."
The last time he'd woken up alone things hadn't went well...

[nospaces] it's enough when I say so AND MAYBE, SOME THINGS ARE THAT SIMPLE [break][break] Sora had a way of derailing any kind of train of thought that Riku may have, just by being Sora. Or by, well, doing anything, really. [break][break] He proved that much by circling his arms around him, allowing the words to die upon Riku's lips as he found himself suddenly pressed up against Sora's body, his warmth seeping into his skin. [break][break] It was a dream. This wasn't a real hug - or at least, it wasn't a real one for Sora. For Riku, it certainly felt real. That was part of being a Dream Eater, with every single thing that happened within Sora's dream being Riku's reality. But then again, Sora's heart was his home, was his reality, and if anything the Dream Eater fiasco merely exacerbated that issue, brought it to life and made it manifest as an actual skill of his. Either way, the words that left Sora's lips and the tangible heartache and fear that existed with them warbled with enough reality for Riku's liking, no matter the circumstances of the dream, and it brought all of his questions to leave his mind entirely, replaced instead chiefly with concern for the boy holding onto him. [break][break] ... That's right. When Sora last woke up by himself...[break][break] Oh, the poor boy. Did he really... Have no one? Not even Kairi? [break][break] It didn't take long for Riku's arms to reciprocate Sora's, wrapping slowly back around the boy who stood on his toes in order to keep hold upon him. Using his own strength, he brought him upward in order to bring him closer, practically to cradle him. Sure, he knew Sora to be self-sustainable, but that didn't prevent his hold from being rather protective, especially in response to Sora's own desperation that he understood all too well. Loneliness... Was one of the most frightening of feelings, and to know that he'd left him within it, even if without intention... [break][break] Riku would stop at nothing to fight everything that ailed Sora. But for now, he would just reassure him, because it was the one thing he knew Sora needed most now. He could practically feel his heart pining; such a resonance likely brought itself to his attention because of the fact he resided in a part of it himself now, as Dream Eater, permanently marked upon his back without any regret. [break][break] ❝Yeah. I'm really here,❞ he breathed into the boy's hair. ❝Sorry for disappearing.❞ And never would he again, not ever. After they woke, he would find Sora, and once he found Sora he was never leaving his side again, new worlds be damned. He was tired of being separated by him, either by sleep, by memory, by time, or by his own doing. He would never let the worlds keep them apart if he could help it. He'd willingly dive into darkness again if it meant that he'd be able to see him and keep him safe. [break][break] That thought brought him to the heart of the matter. Regardless of where he was, or where Sora was, there was one thing most pressing to the Dream Eater now that he thought about it, and his heart panged that he hadn't thought of it before. Granted, at first he'd assumed that Sora was happy and safe back at Destiny Islands with Kairi, or perhaps still hanging about within Yen Sid's tower where Lea and Kairi would be there training with him, but he'd been proven wrong by what Sora said, which indicated to him there was more to these machinations that met the eye. Still, none of that, master plan or not, mattered as much to him as that single question beating about within his brain. [break][break] ❝Are you okay?❞ Because if Sora wasn't, Riku would do everything in his power to make it so, no matter what, even if it meant losing everything else that he had. He could lose the use of his arms, he could lose his legs, he could lose his ribs and his body and his ability to breathe if it meant that it would help make everything okay for Sora in the end. WHATEVER LIES BEYOND THIS MORNING is a little later on

[attr="class","lilyric"]One Sky [attr="class","lilyric3"]One Destiny [attr="class","lilyric2"] Thinking of you, wherever you are [attr="class","litags"]// Come Hug Him // [attr="class","litags"]// Riku // [attr="class","litags"]// Dreamland // [attr="class","licred"]// made by NOVA // | [attr="class","libody"]Sora released a breath as Riku's arms circled around him. It didn't quite feel right. The physics of a dream was by far different than that of the waking world, but that was okay. He knew what it felt like to be hugged by his best friend in the real world and for now this was fine. It was difficult to keep a hold around the older teen's neck--why was Riku so tall?--but he managed by standing on his tiptoes. Apparently, however, that wasn't enough for the older teen and Sora let out a slight yelp of surprise when Riku pulled him up, arms tightening around the older teen's neck. Sometimes he forgot how strong Riku was, and it was instances like this that reminded him.
An apology slipped past Riku's lips and it made Sora's nose scrunch slightly against the older teen. Why was he apologizing? It wasn't as if he had done this on purpose. But then again, Sora had gotten used to the constant apologies that fell from his best friend's lips, ever since they'd found each other again. Sora's heart ached for Riku. His best friend held so much guilt inside of him, and he hated it. Yes, Sora hated that Riku felt so guilty about what happened. And he hated Xehanort for causing it.
Are you okay?
The words were whispered into his hair and they caused a smile to curve Sora's lips. Raising his head from the crook of Riku's neck, and cerulean blue eyes met sea-green bright and full of life. He didn't bother trying to pull away or get out of Riku's hold. He was perfectly content where he was.
"I'm fine!" Not quite a lie. Physically he'd been just fine before Riku showed up, but mentally the negativity and doubt had begun to creep in. Not that he'd tell Riku that. No, his best friend was worried enough as it was. Sora made it his life goal to make sure his friends were fine, that they were happy, and if that meant sacrificing himself to do it he would gladly do so. Especially Riku. Riku who had done so much for him to keep him safe, to help him when he couldn't do it himself.
"What about you?"
